Massive house vs timber frame construction method?

Solid wood has already been mentioned. That is still interesting for us, but we are building with a flat roof. And there, the civil engineers in our circle of acquaintances, even those specialized in wood, tend to go for solid construction.

We will also have a flat roof (allowed up to 5° pitch according to the development plan) but will still build solid wood. The flat roof may not be optimal, but we will manage it with the right trades.

Yes, I mean that a roof without any pitch shouldn’t exist anyway. I believe at least 2° are recommended, if not even required. That makes sense. The problem with both solid wood builders was that they considered their work done once the wooden roof was finished and did not want to take care of the further roof construction – on the builder’s side – not even for money. And we are not interested in that... I can already see the problems arising from that if something goes wrong.

What happened with us is that the general contractor even took care of the demolition and built it ready to move in. I can't imagine that he would then leave the roof to the client.

And we are not in the mood for that... I already see the problems from more "if something happens"

I can understand that. However, we place great importance on the house being built from solid wood. So we will take the risk.
