We are still considering it. However, a timber frame is out for us. It no longer feels much like a wooden house to us since, with most providers, only the "skeleton" is made of wood. There is more insulation than wood in the house. This might be different with providers like Sonnleitner, as I can at least work with log walls on the inside here.
Solid wood has already been mentioned. That is still interesting for us, but we are building with a flat roof. And there, the structural engineers in our circle of acquaintances, even those specialized in wood, tend to favor solid construction.
For us, if wood, then only solid wood. Here, for example, you can also play with the walls so as not to be overwhelmed entirely by wood. Exterior walls (inside) in exposed wood and the interior walls, which are also made of solid wood, then simply clad with drywall.
From all the conversations, we have only found out that in the end, you can nicely have all the disadvantages of wooden houses in solid construction as well — cf. sound insulation, etc.
Otherwise, the essential points have already been mentioned. In my eyes, no building style is better or worse; those times are probably over. It really depends heavily on the executing company; even the most visually beautiful solid construction can end up a ruin...
