Hello,

we want to buy a dining table with chairs, namely Stornäs with the Ingolf. I heard from an acquaintance that you can damage the wood just by pressing with your fingernail. My question:
Is there a way to make the furniture more durable, e.g. with a varnish or something like that, and has anyone ever done that?

Regards, Franz

Hello

So the surface can be sealed to make it more resistant to liquids and dirt. This can be done with a good varnish. Unfortunately, soft wood cannot be made harder, so the problem with the dents and scratches that develop over time will remain. A varnish only forms a very thin layer, which is highly durable and abrasion-resistant, but does not make the substrate firmer.

I don’t have the table in front of me, but maybe a full-surface glass top would be something?
If it has to be pure wood, it has to be oak or maple. They are very hard and also forgive rougher handling.

Another option is to live with the table and the table with you, and if it gets too bad, there is a beauty treatment like sanding and resealing.

Best regards hinnakk
