Hello I haven't really forgotten the name of an Ikea product, instead I would like to ask around if there is a suitable Ikea product for my requirement: I am looking for a bench, about 2m long, which simultaneously serves as a kind of cabinet, with storage space to keep things inside. Specifically, I want to collect waste paper and empty plastic bottles in it. It would be good if the bench could be opened from above with a hinged lid, so basically like a "storage bench". Does anyone have an idea which Ikea item might be suitable for this? Regards Section Chief

There would be the possibility to put something together yourself - as suggestions, for example based on Expedit) or

(similar, but based on the no longer available Lack shelf).

Thanks for the great tip!!! I just have a few concerns regarding the stability. I assume I would have to do that with the Kallax shelf

although it has no back panel, so I think it won't be very stable on the sides. So if, for example, two overweight people sit on it, it could collapse sideways. But I could reinforce it on the back with some metal brackets... Often it is the back panel that gives a cabinet its lateral stability. What do you think about it? Regards Sections Chief

According to this idea, I could also take something like a Trofast

that is definitely more stable because it has a side panel at the top and bottom and also metal brackets.
2 pieces side by side with a seat cushion on top... it's just a bit more expensive than the Kallax.
best regards

You could also use low Metod cabinets with drawers on Capita legs for that.

Thank you IKEA expert! How do you see the stability of the Kallax shelf? The idea of using Metod cabinets is also good, but drawer pulls don’t help me there. I want to collect waste paper and plastic bottles with it, so I need either tall baskets or tall drawer pulls with side walls (Schubladen). Are there actually any baskets (or similar) that can be pulled out for the Metod cabinets? Best regards Sektionschef
