That may apply to the acquisition costs. But by far not to the operating costs. But the device requires 1.3 kg of salt per regeneration! That is massively too much. Modern comparable counter-current systems manage here even in the worst case with far, far less than half. There are actually no details about water consumption, but to get that amount of salt through the filter bed (and then back out) I would now estimate at least 50 l.

What would be an alternative? Grünbeck is nice and all, but the price is naturally sometimes hefty, and when I compare the purchase price with the operating costs of other systems, it takes several years for it to balance out.

If you only care about the one-time purchase price, there is no alternative. The thing (by the way identical to products with water2buy branding) is inexplicably cheap. This is mainly due to the fact that the device is as far from the state of the art as the Stone Age. A reputable German manufacturer simply hasn't built simple systems with direct current regeneration and 8 l resin volume without disinfection for years.

Water softening systems are easy to sell, and anyone who thinks there are no more limescale deposits is gravely mistaken, as is the idea that you have to clean less in the bathroom. By the way, water should not be used for children. Think about that again, the maintenance costs are also not to be underestimated. I saved myself the money and would do it again.

I don’t know, if the water is really bad like ours then it helps. It will never be limescale-free.
