Hello,

in our used house that we bought, some light switches are not in the positions where we would like them to be. Installing new boxes and running cables is not an option due to the effort involved. Therefore, I am looking for a system of wireless switches where a receiver relay is placed in the old switch box and I can put a transmitter with a switch or button at the desired new position.

There are apparently some simple solutions even in the hardware store sector, but I would like something WLAN-based that can later be integrated into a home automation system. I would use it to create a presence simulation with these switches. Is there a good overview somewhere or can you recommend something?

As a central control, I am considering a Raspberry with suitable software. I want to tinker with it a bit in the future.

I use Sonoff (Tasmota), Xiaomi, and Shelly in conjunction with Openhab2 on a Raspberry.

Without a central unit, I'm not sure, but via MQTT the battery Xiaomi switch/motion detector could operate the Shelly1 in the "old" switch.

I would opt for Z-Z-Wave in this case.

Thanks! I have already looked at Sonoff/Tasmota in another context. That would fit well. Let's see if I can get a switch/relay pair working at the beginning without a Raspberry as the central unit.

Enocean. Can later also be connected with KNX. Wireless switch without battery.

I can fully recommend the Shelly1 and Shelly2. They have a relay controllable via radio, and also an input for the old light switch, so you can use both. Exactly what you are looking for. Even more:

[*]Fits into the flush-mounted box behind the conventional light switch, so you can switch via WLAN or the old switch!
    [*]Direct 230V power supply
    [*]Works without cloud
[*]Also works without WLAN connection when you press the normal switch
[*]Easily integrable into iobroker, openhab, etc.
    [*]MQTT, web access
[*]For those who like it: cloud and smartphone app from the manufacturer
    [*]Open source
[*]Super cheap at 10€ or 20€ each

I installed them for testing in my apartment and they work perfectly. No connection problems or anything similar, even though I surely have many sources of interference from the 20 WLAN networks of my neighbors in the building.

In my renovation house, deep boxes are now being installed everywhere. And if needed, a Shelly each. Perfect solution for a low three-digit amount.

Anyone who still spends the price of a small car on smart home wiring, I can only shake my head at.
