That somehow sounds familiar to me... although I hope that my daughter won't be doing that anymore in 5 years.. Regarding the situation: I would primarily look at the social environment. What is the age structure in the town, are there enough other children so that you don't always have to drive your son to appointments, etc. The commute to work has to be such that it doesn't totally annoy you in the long run... but it's not necessarily bad not to live that close (are you a teacher? Then even more so)
