However, Carrara as kitchen flooring works better with a stonemason maintenance contract. It hardly gets more sensitive. We once considered Bohus Silver granite as a countertop in a matte finish, but then opted for laminate until the kids are older, to avoid having to buy new dishes every four weeks. Maybe it's also available as flooring.

We have often read about limestone and marble that the stones are very sensitive to acid and also to scratches (stones on shoes). Since there is no separate anteroom and the kitchen and living room are also in the open living area; we are thinking of something durable like granite. We have 3 children, a cat, and a dog is supposed to join in the new house. Polished granite surface in light gray.
What do you think about a polished surface?
Originally we wanted gray slate, but it is very dark with a greenish tint. But the cleft surface would be great.

With children, dog, and cat, I would actually choose stoneware. From Bruchtal and Villeroy & Boch, there are very beautiful ones that do not look like imitations. Stones are always absorbent, and with animals, it’s inevitable that unpleasant things end up on the floor. The lighter the stone, the more likely the stain from the partially digested mouse or the pee puddle remains. And rough or textured surfaces in combination with pets are more for people with staff or cleaning obsession. Unless you like a stain patina, then natural stone is, of course, unbeatable.

So I definitely don't want a pee puddle in a newly built house!

Then one should keep neither cats nor dogs. Or only specimens aged 1.5 to 8 years. ;) Younger and older specimens tend to have leakages.

Not only animals... also small children... at some point the diaper has to go and then things often end up in the pants and sometimes on the floor
