Hello,

we want to install spotlights in the hallway as well as in the guest bathroom and main bathroom. The developer is lowering the ceiling in the hallway, and a long "podest" is being lowered in the bathrooms.

The electrician wants 50 € per spotlight but also says that we can provide the materials. (everything went through the developer)

Our question is what do you recommend for spotlights, or can we get cheaper materials?

The guest bathroom / hallway has no window. The main bathroom has a large window.

Thank you

Hi!

We have LED spots throughout the entire upper floor. The spots themselves cost around €7 each (ordered online, there is an unlimited selection here). Then you might need transformers (can be laid inside the suspended ceiling) for 230V > 12V. For LED bulbs, you come to about €14 per transformer with 1 transformer / 5 spots. The bulb prices strongly depend on your choice of technology. We decided on LED bulbs because they last longer and are significantly cheaper in electricity consumption (7 W vs. 60 W each). Our principle here was: quality > price. Of course, there are cheap LEDs, but reasonable ones cost us about €21 each. With LEDs, it is also important which light color, beam angle, and how many lumens the spots have, etc. I think we have a 36° angle, 6.5W, warm white 2700K, and 380 lumens.

In the bathroom (13m²), we have 5 spots of this type. If I were to do it again, I might rather go for 6 spots.

You can basically do it yourself; even I, with my two left hands and ten thumbs, managed to install them without accidents. The cost in the end is about €32 per spot, but with LED. With halogen, you come to about €15 per spot (bulbs cheaper, but transformers more expensive).

Hope this helped.

Here I’m jumping in.

@Brisch: What does the angle depend on or how did you choose it? Would you also install spotlights in the children's rooms and dressing room? Is the light sufficient and can it be used to illuminate the entire room well? Halogen lights are always so spot-focused. What are actually the advantages compared to a normal lamp in the middle of the room (for example in the children's room)?

The angle depends on the LED light source. The larger the better. We also have spots in the bedroom and children's rooms. Especially with sloping roofs, it's great because in the already limited free space you don’t have a lamp hanging around that you can bump your head on. Yes, enough light if there are enough spots or LM (there is a formula for how much LM / m2 is useful in living spaces. I just don’t have it in mind. But it’s stated in another post here in the forum. Just search for it). Advantage: no hitting your head. Otherwise, personal feeling.

Hello,

I would recommend installing GU10 spots:
a) LED easier to dim since no additional electronics (transformer) required
b) the transformer is omitted.
c) cheaper

Regarding the angle:
Take a sheet of paper and draw the height of your room to scale, then from the ceiling pull down the angle of the desired light bulb to the floor.
Now you know the distance your spots need to have in order to fully illuminate the floor.
This procedure worked great for me.
From O***am there are first-class bulbs 7W and 2700K that should make you happy.

For testing you can do the following.
Once you know how far apart your spots are, take a long board and mount the spots accordingly, hold the board at the desired height, turn off the light, turn on the spots and observe the result.

At A****on there are very stylish recessed rings at a spot price, just take a look.

EF
