We also have a gate to the street and about 7m of pathway from the property boundary to the front door. To make it easier for everyone involved, we placed a parcel box next to the gate at the front. Mail and most packages go in there (up to approximately size M DHL). The delivery people save the trip/waiting, and we don’t have to go to the door for every package. Win-win situation. Especially practical when we are not at home.

That may be true. In times of "online," however, it is both old-fashioned and a waste of resources. The number of letters in Germany has almost halved in the last 10 years. off topic: Streamlining the mail service and delivery only once a week, but with cheap postage, would be my suggestion.

Resource waste... said the one with the 2 terraces and a pool, which is also going to get a terrace so you don't have to carry chairs... I mean sometimes... honestly, do you listen to yourself?

The post isn't actually that important... packages, on the other hand, are much more so. I would love it if all my neighbors had a big parcel box, then at least I wouldn’t have to accept all the small stuff while working from home.

Tell that to the data protection officers. You wouldn't believe how much may not be sent electronically (not even at the customer's request). This applies from simple appointments to findings and invoices. Once a week would be pretty stupid in that case.

Thanks for the response. I agree with you – sounds like a good solution to me. We are undecided whether we need a parcel box; this will be especially difficult with a concrete pillar...

We have a dark green classic American metal mailbox with a red flag installed at the driveway on a black metal pipe. It is large enough for small merchandise shipments and the Thursday newspaper.
If it is not about a single piece, but an "integration," the surroundings into which it should be "integrated" play a role.

Our neighbors have that, it stands around decoratively, works. Mail stays dry.

You know our "wooden hut" and its location on the property. For me, it is a matter of friendly consideration to place the mailbox by the street. I respect their work effort and time. With an extra 3 minutes per delivery (if someone hurries) and 5 deliveries a week, that adds up to more than an hour of work time per month. The solution with the mailbox by the street is simple and pragmatic.
