Hello, I am an "internet layman", want to operate a Wi-Fi router in the basement of a new building, and then on the ground floor, first floor and attic connect a "device" to a LAN port that receives the signal from the LAN cable and then both broadcasts Wi-Fi and also has a LAN port, so that if needed it can still be connected directly via LAN cable without disabling the Wi-Fi. Preferably the whole thing powered via a power plug into an outlet, and if possible for wall mounting. Does such a thing exist? If yes, which "devices" would you recommend? Or is a LAN port on the device "superfluous" because you can expect very good Wi-Fi in that room? Thanks in advance for answers. Best regards from Tom

All stationary devices to the LAN and only mobile devices to the WiFi. LAN is much faster and duplex. You need a router or in your case an all-in-one box. With so little knowledge in the field, this is the best. A patch panel and a switch. Then on each floor a LAN connection for the access points. Those from Fritz do not support POE and therefore each also requires a power outlet. Depending on the model, these also have a LAN connection. But it is still a crutch. There are many manufacturers with POE but then you have to configure the access points separately. Additionally, all the LAN connection sockets for the living room, offices, children's rooms etc. Always lay duplex cable. Have you already built or still in planning? If the latter, then please plan properly and do not create a problem that can only be solved with a lot of money and effort. Search for relevant threads. For WiFi, it also depends on the standard, the type of obstacles, the number of devices, etc.

You can tell - otherwise, just by searching the term "Access Point," you would have already found like a thousand eight hundred and ninety-eight exhaustive explanations to your questions here.

Here is a packing list for beginners. I have switches, cameras, and access points from Unify/Ubiquity. It makes everything really easy to configure. Basically via the mobile app.

[*]19 inch network cabinet approx. 10 rack units high
[*]Patch panel. This is where the cables are wired and then can be plugged into the respective switch port with small cables
[*]Switch. Depending on requirements, 16 to 24 ports are usually enough. The switch should have POE ports. These provide power to, for example, access points or cameras via the cable.
[*]Power strip in the network cabinet
[*]Approx. 30 patch cables about 20 cm long
[*]In my case, also a Unify Cloud gen2. Provides remote access plus camera recording
[*]Access points. I have 3. 2 inside, one outside in the shed.

Good luck

Are you still in the house planning stage or is the house already ready for occupancy?

That was eight and a half years ago – yes, a bit of background information about the history in the meantime wouldn't be bad: was the house considered back then moved into, is the search still ongoing, or is something new currently being planned?
