Hello everyone,

we planned to install the controlled residential ventilation system in the attic. This way, the ducts can be better distributed to the rooms below, and we gained space in the utility room.
Now, we have our bedrooms on the upper floor (master bedroom, dressing room, 2 children's rooms, and bathroom).
The ceiling to the attic is a wooden beam ceiling with OSB boards, which is insulated but of course does not provide as much sound insulation as the normal concrete ground floor ceiling. The planned installation location is directly above the bedroom. The intake opening should face the gable side. On this side, there is also a children's room.
Now, I am a bit worried about the noise development. I hope the controlled residential ventilation system does not keep us awake at night, or is the operating noise not audible?

Relocating it to the other gable side would be possible (there is the bathroom and another children's room), then we would position the controlled residential ventilation system directly above the bathroom, so hopefully nothing can be heard in the second children's room.

However, the disadvantage is that on this gable side is also the chimney, to which a wood stove is connected. Could it be that depending on the weather conditions and the draft of the chimney, the intake opening of the controlled residential ventilation system might suck in the exhaust gases from the chimney?

Has anyone else had the controlled residential ventilation system installed in the attic (within the insulated envelope)?

That is important... everything else is practically negligible... however, I would also rather position the system above the bathroom... you can also move the intake opening a few meters further...

But it's best to ask Sebastian79, he also installed his system in the attic

I also have my controlled residential ventilation system in the attic. In between are drywall, beams with insulation (in my case "double," once ceiling, but the roof is also completely insulated), then OSB. The system is located above the children's rooms at our place, but you don't hear anything unless you activate the "party mode" aka highest settings. You just have to make sure that the minimum pipe lengths specified by the manufacturer are maintained in the rooms below.

My system isn’t really located inside the insulated shell – we do have 60mm of roof insulation, but the actual insulation stops at the collar beam level.

I started wrapping the pipes there, but eventually gave up because it’s a damn fiddly job. So far, the temperatures in the attic are almost the same as on the upper floor – I’ll just keep observing it.

The system is also mounted centrally on the north gable, where the intake also takes place directly. Unlike the exhaust air, fresh air is a bit quieter. Directly below the unit is our bathroom, next to it our bedroom.

We don’t live here yet, but I don’t hear the unit itself – only in absolute silence do I hear a faint airflow because we have two pipes connected to a valve in the master bedroom. But what’s disturbing is something else – and that even at nominal ventilation settings. I still need to experiment to find a good setting/programming.

Especially since nominal ventilation consumes almost 120 watts/hour here.

Thank you all for the answers! I will then try to relocate it and check whether the supply air has to be in the gable center (the [Kontrollierte-Wohnraumlüftung] is wall-mounted in the gable center) or if it can also be installed on the side, further away from the chimney

I do not hear any draft, but I can definitely hear the device in the installation room (but not in the neighboring room).
