I really can't believe that no one here knows this – and no one can just look it up... More than 30 seconds on Google and even public authorities like state/tax office etc. provide crystal-clear results.

==> taxable income counts

==> what is taxable income

==> what influence does parental allowance have on taxable income

Conclusion: And even if you were to receive €10,000 parental allowance per month, it has no influence on your taxable income. Only on the actual tax to be paid. And thus also zero influence on the KfW income calculation.

Thank you for summarizing. I have already researched and suspected that parental allowance has no influence on this.

So to summarize: If together you previously exceeded the income limit and then one person receives parental allowance, you become eligible for funding. The joint taxable income decreases due to receiving parental allowance. The parental allowance listed under the taxable income in the tax assessment, which is indirectly taxed via the progression clause, has no influence on the calculation of funding eligibility.

Have I understood this correctly?

That leaves the question why the lady from KFW could not confirm this to me.

Understood the method of calculation. But the parental allowance today is irrelevant, as past years are considered:

He wants to apply only in 2026, since he is definitely above that in 21/22...

Exactly. It is about whether we will be eligible for funding in the future. Of course, no one can say for sure until 2026, but based on the current situation, it would work because of receiving parental allowance instead of a regular salary.

Then it's fine. I just wanted to point out that calculations are made quite far back in the past and that one then has to "plan" far into the future.
