Hello everyone, we are currently still searching for a construction company and have a favorite that was recommended to us by good friends/colleagues. In today's initial meeting, we were told that sun protection (roller shutters or venetian blinds) is legally required at least in bedrooms and that we need them. So far, we had planned to build without roller shutters/venetian blinds, but we are now unsure if this is really necessary? Basically, it would not be a problem to install them, but actually, we see no necessity for us (before a fundamental discussion begins, I have not had roller shutters for 8 years and do not miss them). Thank you for the help!

You must provide sufficient summer thermal protection; for a single-family house, an external sunshade such as a roller blind is sufficient.

Without shading, a new building becomes a sauna

answered almost correctly.

A summer thermal protection must be proven. For single-family houses, the proof can be waived if roller shutters or similar are installed. However, the thermal protection can also be demonstrated by appropriate structural arrangement or roof overhangs.

But from practical experience, it makes no sense at all to forgo external shading in new construction. Otherwise, you will really end up with a sauna. Thanks to good insulation, the cold stays outside, but the sauna inside the house in summer also does not leave.

Without roller shutters, is that a North German thing? I don’t know any house here without roller shutters at all. Not even in buildings from the 60s.

Okay, in combination with the good insulation (it will also be a KFW55 house) it probably can't be avoided after all.
It certainly won't hurt to have roller shutters (venetian blinds don't fit the planned Mediterranean country house style).

Thanks for the information, it definitely helped.
