Is owning a home feasible for us or too much of a risk?

Altogether currently 2500 expenses... with an income of 4000.
Doesn't one save the remaining 1500 monthly, or are there positions not listed (like e.g. vacation, pocket money, and leisure) that are simply brushed aside to make the situation look better?

You don’t buy your own home on the side like that. That won’t work. But you are still young and could take the first steps with a household budget book to see where your money currently goes. Then I would consider whether the expensive mobile contract for 25€ is necessary or if you have to pay for the TV. Without savings rate with a medium salary and desire to have children in the near future, money still plays a role – just as small expenses reduce the salary, they can conversely also be saved.

In my opinion, we are also building a standard house and have already paid over €200,000 just for the land. For the house, we are initially calculating €420,000, which does not include a kitchen or any outdoor facilities; we would be glad if we only had to pay €300,000. If I were you, I would really save first and have children, then you will see how much money you have left. We have two children and never spend less than €1000 on food and drugstore items. Children also want clothes, a cell phone, school supplies, sports clubs, etc.; expenses arise that you did not have before.

Best regards
Sabine

Or you postpone your desire to have children until you have saved enough for it. We have to do that too. So we will set aside the installment for 6 months. Since I would receive full parental allowance, it will work out then. But I will only be on parental leave for 10 months, or just under 9 months due to maternity protection. Check the childcare prices in your area. Then ask relatives if they would step in financially if things get tight, and then start looking for a plot of land. Only once you have found one do you need to worry about other things.

Until then: save diligently!

What a world in which the desire to have children and building a house are placed on the same level.

I would not advise anyone who wants children to postpone that wish. An unfulfilled desire to have children can become so dominant that it overshadows everything else. In contrast, I find it hard to imagine this happening with the wish for a home of one's own. I advise you to clarify with a bank what they would finance for you, and then see if there is a suitable house within the budget. Preferably an existing property.

When I read about planning to have children in 2 to 3 years, the desire to have children cannot be that existential yet.
I already wanted children at 18 but first completed my studies.

The OP wants a house? Then postponing the desire to have children by 1 to 2 years would be an option that might make the dream possible.

Placing the desire to have children behind the desire to build a house strikes me as downright antisocial.
