Is owning a home feasible for us or too much of a risk?

yes, and then one still wants to "build a career." And then the big trip to South America, and then more... and suddenly you’re 40 and getting pregnant isn’t quite so easy anymore. And then you sit in your fancy house and can use the planned children’s rooms for the model train.

No offense, these are priorities everyone has to set for themselves anyway. I just can’t understand treating having children like a project such as building a house. But luckily, that’s not necessary when it comes to other people’s lives.

Well, now you are seeing things quite negatively. Going through with the house project before planning for children is not so wrong. I notice with our little one (2 years old) how much he needs a garden. I will be very relieved when we are in the house. And now don't come with going to the playground. That's just not the same and in the city it's not always a pleasure either.

The two are in their mid-20s and if they tackle the house now and then have children in 5 years, they are still far from their 40s. Career ambitions and dream trips always hinder the desire to have children, whether it's a house or an apartment.

2000€ net... many in eastern Germany dream of that...

By the way, I do the same "job" as you ... without IG Metall collective wage agreement....

So here it is, Industry 4.0.... wages will rise, that is certain.

There won't be any "new" ones soon who want to put on the overalls and do shift work. Nor any "refugees".... that's the reality!

And no, Aldi-Süd or Aldi-Nord - it doesn't matter price-wise how the fridge gets filled.

Do you work in shifts (like me..) ??

I couldn't sleep peacefully anymore during the day in any rental apartment - so moving to a house was just the logical consequence...

It's not about yes or no --- but about WHO (which house builder) .....

We also did the "full financing" - like in America, without much equity. Found & bought the plot ourselves, then the house building company, factored in costs for notary etc. - it works!

What exactly do you want to say with your post?

Did "full financing" – like in America, without much equity

AND that is exactly wrong! and should be forbidden! There is a lot of crazy stuff in the US (130% financing, guns for everyone, Trump)... and the argument "like in America"... you can only shake your head at that!

Are you building several houses? Because from the house construction in the neighboring thread, it sounds quite different from "it works"

Yes, of course a full financing can work. But then the salary has to be right. Or you can offer the bank other securities.

Those who ask "can this work?" usually do not have the appropriate salary for it.
