Back again to the apartment in the hometown. That is the crux of the financing. If you liquidate 200k there, you can comfortably build your dream house here with a top interest rate and affordable installment. I don’t quite understand why you want to potentially lose sleep and restrict yourselves here for years so that an acquaintance of your father can live in your apartment way too cheaply, probably forever, as you will most likely never go back to the hometown again. Yes, I understand that you see the apartment somewhat as an exit scenario security, but way too much money is tied up there for virtually no rent. If you want or have to leave here in 10 years, you will get enough money from the house sale to then buy a suitable apartment. Think about it again.

But always remember that the numbers are never complete. For us, they came around with a 200k house. But then another relaxed 80k was added on top.

"I really don't understand why some of you here are discouraging you from your plan."

I suspect it’s due to the age-financial sum ratio. Because that is exactly the cause of my doubts. Late 20s or even both early 30s and the situation is just different.

"You must not forget that the 240k for the apartment in India was also saved by you."

Yes, true, but that was 4 years ago and back then I worked full-time, but basically maybe we could after all.. we have to weigh the balance here of what it costs over many years in terms of money and non-monetary aspects (nerves, risk). Even with 100k less it might be more relaxed... Let’s see what we find out tomorrow :)

:) My husband must never read along here in the forum!!;);)

No, honestly, I understand what you mean, especially in this financial context, but that is simply out of the question for us. It is close to family, several family members have an apartment there, and possibly for my parents or parents-in-law in old age, it could offer options or something like that. We have already thought about it, and the apartment stays as it is, and we simply deal with the current cards. If it means we don’t build a house here, or build a much smaller one, I can live with that.

that's 240k.. think again about what it means to be able to save that much money!! You could have also spent it all back then.

Ultimately, it is of course your decision and your well-being, I just wanted to once again make clear to you what great financial achievement you have already made.

And someday (unfortunately way too soon), the time will come again when you can work more because the child is old enough ;)

Even if it’s off-topic, I can’t just let that stand. First of all, very few students will be able to simply earn €600 on the side from the first semester. And secondly, as parents you are obligated to support the children until the education is completed. That has absolutely nothing to do with helicopter parenting. It should be included in the financing plan. That you shouldn’t overdo it and finance the child’s own car and a one-room apartment is another matter. I agree with you on that. I also worked from the third semester onwards to afford a bit more and in the end I even landed a full-time job ;)
