I didn’t give any thought to retirement at 30 either. I’m now 33 and still not really dealing with the topic. Why should I? I still have to work at least 30 years, pay an amount X every month for retirement provision, and that’s that...

So my two receive a certain amount of support for their studies/training. The amount I can afford. If it is only 200 euros, then so be it. That's why it would never occur to me to work longer. Then it just can't be Heidelberg. And my children will have to work alongside their studies or they will look for a dual study program (which I also did).

Otherwise, take a look inside yourselves whether it really has to be the garden. Just to have a plot is not worth it. You have to fulfill a need with garden and little house.
Then you should also see if you really reach these sums with a very simple little house. Maybe a bungalow with an expandable attic works as well. That also saves a lot.

I will work as long as I can and am allowed to. If I don't work, I become depressed. That doesn't mean I won't reduce the workload at some point, but without work I "waste away".

Good morning everyone.

Oooookkk! The topic has now deviated a bit. Every attitude is understandably different and may and should be so.

Back to the matter - Tomorrow is the first serious appointment with the prefabricated construction company on site and I hope we will get a better picture regarding the house plan in general and costs. Then I will report my update.

Good idea. Just take a look at the money flows from your accounts over the last two years. That's how we did it. The good thing about this method is that you can calculate your maximum savings rate very precisely because you can identify every item that is not necessary.

I really can't understand why some of you are discouraging others from their plans here.

There are threads from the past where even with a net income of 5k, 500k was financed, with little or no equity, and approved as feasible.

You must not forget that the 240k for the apartment in India was also saved by you. So if you were able to save 240k "on the side," then you will 100% be able to manage a payment that is a few hundred euros above your current rent excluding utilities.

Have fun tomorrow – I'm curious to hear what you report :)
