Are the Greeks ahead of us there?! A lot can happen in a few years, for example parents move in and "buy" a granny flat, job change, inheritance, and so on and so forth

The Greeks do not finance, but build as far as their money allows.

And now you come? How is that supposed to work financially for you?

But that doesn't matter how it is paid. If you are referring to the bank – I don't know if they will go along with that. That was just an intermediate question from me.

It does matter how it is paid at all, since you have to finance the entire amount. Or how did you imagine that? I am curious

Correct. Ideally, I imagine it like this: the bank approves and finances the entire project. But if I only draw the money for the second construction phase after 2 years, I pay commitment interest (although I saw that some banks don’t charge it for up to 2 years). If the construction doesn’t happen after all, you would have to talk to the bank that the total loan is not needed (only the amount for the granny flat + basement). There should be a solution for that. Do banks agree to that?
