Is it possible to paint titanium zinc and then gild it?

Yesterday I wrote to someone and they just responded very kindly.

Unfortunately, we have no experience with gilding zinc parts, as we do not gild zinc parts ourselves. If a customer wants gilded elements, we make them from stainless steel or, if possible, from copper. The first important thing is whether it is a gilding for indoor or outdoor use. It should also be considered which method you want to use for the gilding. I think the classic mechanical methods, such as oil gilding or Instacoll gilding, are rather not recommended, as zinc tends to easily outgas, which causes small bubbles to form under the gold layer and eventually causes it to peel off. Try it chemically, that is, galvanically, but as mentioned, since zinc is quite sensitive to all kinds of chemicals, success is not guaranteed.

Should the sheets be installed first and then gilded? Otherwise, when making the fold, you damage the coating.

I am in the process of deciding to give up the gilding on the top of the roof.

But the roof will also have a - partly - visible underside ... that would be nice too .... and since large parts will be invisible there, I will also save some gold :)

I think the crux of the matter is the subsequent gilding on the roof, which causes proper processes like galvanizing to be omitted. With regard to the comment about the seam, one could try to dismantle everything, then gild it and put it back on the roof. Can't a golden effect paint simply be used?

Yes, the roof (approx. 3 sqm) will be made of wood, covered with titanium sheet, and should later - maybe after a few years - be gilded ... but as I said: I am currently redesigning .... Golden effect paint is of course possible, but that looks quite different from real gold ....

In my opinion, zinc sheets are powder-coated and then baked on. That certainly also works with gold paint. Trial makes wise.
