Is fast-setting screed necessary for a walk-in shower?

(Quote: "With normal screed mortar, he can neither properly perform the waterproofing work nor lay the tiles promptly".) Anyone proficient in the German language can only interpret this statement as misleading and nothing else! -------------------------- @ Lars: you can safely use this screed additive when making screed. It is important to adhere to the mixing ratio. Good additives do indeed cause early strength development. Just like with rapid cements. But once again: this has nothing to do with the drying behavior! The screed structure must show the readiness for laying (dryness). Also ask your building materials supplier here how high the CM value may be. Depending on the manufacturer, it can be between 2.5 and 3%. Good luck: KlaRa

You're right, I might not be as proficient in German as you, but I will not accept you accusing me of writing something here with my half-knowledge. Sorry! Clear up misunderstandings first before you accuse someone of something! I don't know you, so I won't describe you in a derogatory way, that wouldn't be fair... But when it comes to expertise, I outshine some who write a lot and without spelling mistakes from my left trouser pocket... I do that every day outside and on the internet

KlaRa, I have to bother you again. Should I rather use the fast screed Ardex Type 38 Mix (1.30 EUR/kg) or could I also use the fast screed from quickmix (0.40 EUR/kg)?

The "SZE Schnell-Zement-Estrich," if that is what you mean, is cement-bound, suitable for residential construction, and achieves a final strength of 25N/mm². That is always sufficient! From my point of view, this cement can also be used without hesitation in the area of the shower. The advantage of the product from ARDEX is its early readiness for covering. Under appropriate climatic conditions, tile laying would be possible according to the specifications already after 4 hours. This is related to the ingredients – which also explains the comparatively higher price compared to the SZE fast screed.

That is the only reason why it is so much more expensive mh. Ok that means, if I want to save money, the tiler has to wait a day before he can lay the tiles? That wouldn’t bother me either, since the tiles are not available for delivery anyway.

I would like to revisit the thread:

In my case, the shower area is now to be completed with screed because of the slope. In the rest of the bathroom, an anhydrite screed has been installed. Can I use any ordinary cement screed there? Even the cheap one from the hardware store?
