Is an exterior roller shutter needed for a roof window or is a pleated blind sufficient?

Hello everyone,

We are having a new skylight installed in the old building from 1987. The orientation is south. The room is going to be an office. Is it necessary to have an external roller shutter installed? Or is an internal pleated blind enough?

We would like to save the costs for the roller shutter. However, we are afraid that it might become too hot in the summer.

Roller shutter. In any case, otherwise it will just get even hotter.

If you install something inside, the heat is already in the room. It's still better than nothing. But if you are going to install the window anyway, put a blind on the outside right away.

From experience, having lived for years in an old building under the roof, please with external blinds. Save money elsewhere ;-)

Does it really make that much of a difference? I can't imagine that at all. And then I would be sitting and working in the dark during the summer?

Absolutely roller shutters. We have a heat protection awning from Velux on a roof window. That helps too (it's outside). But by far not as much as a roller shutter. I wouldn’t save money here. Without the roller shutters, we wouldn’t be able to sleep in the attic in the summer at all, it would be too hot.
