Technically, that is certainly possible. According to my simple technical understanding, you just make the floor slab a bit thicker at the living room area. But I can't tell you what that costs. I think some people add quite a bit on top of that.
What I don't understand, however, is: WHY would you build a bungalow and put in a tripping hazard cubed? Think about later, when you might not be able to lift your feet so high anymore, then you will really curse that one step (or two). If stairs, then proper ones. One or two steps can be easily overlooked. You build a bungalow primarily to be barrier-free, or am I mistaken?
As nice as these lowered areas are, they are also very impractical.
