Personally, I find the HPL planks visually appealing. However, most HPL planks are only 10mm thick. Despite a substructure spacing of 30cm, these things bend when walked on. That was a disqualifying factor for me. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone who has an HPL terrace and how long such a decor actually lasts.

I now think that a proper substructure and correct execution are crucial for the lifespan.

We have WPC, closed deck, rubber profiles between the boards, it looks like a ship deck, no dirt disappears in the gaps, no moss or weeds grow from underneath, barefoot board, the right decision for us

Thank you very much. I have ordered samples and will decide afterwards. Installation instructions can be found at the dealer.

The reason why HPL is only half as thick as WPC is probably due to the price.

The axle spacing of the substructure is specified as 300mm.

edit1: can you tell me if the WPC boards get very warm/hot in summer? I have read different statements about that.

Yes, when the sun is blazing at 35 degrees, you can forget about going barefoot, but it is similar with stone and wood. We have a sun sail above it and in summer it is always half or fully extended. For shading the open patio door and table and chairs, which otherwise also get very hot. From March onwards, our living area is extended to the terrace and garden and life is switched to barefoot.
