IP44 or IP65 for terrace roofing?

we have a covered terrace and would like to install 6 LED recessed spots in the ceiling. Now I was wondering what protection class the lamps should have. Is IP44 sufficient or would it be better to use IP65? The lamps will definitely not be exposed to rain, but I don’t know how it is generally with moisture.

IP44 should be sufficient for ceiling mounting. At the installation height, you will not have a major dust problem and splash water certainly not. Near the floor, at least IP65 would be appropriate.

Thank you very much for the response! In the meantime, I also did a little googling and saw that IP65 would definitely be over the top. Actually, it even says that directly under the ceiling itself IP23 is completely sufficient.

If the ceiling is always dry and clean anyway, I would choose the cheapest option and not look at the IP ratings.

I am not exactly sure if there are regulations, but I have also installed some LED floodlights under the roof overhang that can never get wet. I also did not use IP44 floodlights there, to my knowledge rather IP23. However, with the wiring, I have of course paid attention to proper seals, and the junction box is even IP65, even though it is inside under the roof overhang.
