Hello,
unfortunately, we neglected to have blinds installed during the house construction (single-family house, aerated concrete walls, brick wall) in the upper floor. Now, in the height of summer, we notice that the windows are the huge weak point, which is why it gets very hot on the upper floor (especially the rooms with windows facing west; the rooms with windows facing east do not get nearly as hot because the afternoon sun does not constantly shine through there).

Does anyone have experience with retrofitted blinds (type? wireless or wired electrical?) Currently, we are still very cautious because we do not want to damage the brick facade at the window.

I am grateful for all tips, experiences, and advice :)

Hi, if it's purely about the temperature, you might also consider whether sun protection glass is an option for you. After all, you wouldn't have to do anything to the clinker facade, just replace the glass. You also wouldn't have to lay cables for power supply. Have your window fitter/glazier advise you on sun protection glass. Regards, redtatoo

Hi, thanks for your response. We actually decided against it back then because the room darkening for life (even if this is perceived by some as not so "strongly noticeable") was not an option for us. A room is, for example, also an office.

I have retrofitted the whole house. The reason is that I don’t like it too warm inside. I simply used top-mounted roller shutters at the top for the bedrooms and screens at the bottom in the kitchen and living room. The screens can be installed flush with the facade on the outside. However, a hole through the masonry to the inside for the power connection must be made. But you don’t see it, it’s behind the box. The top-mounted roller shutters are deeper/"thicker" than the window recess and protrude over the windows. Of course, a few holes had to be drilled into the masonry per window for that as well. Nothing is really damaged, only the spot where it was drilled through. I wanted manual roller shutters (that was barely possible); electric is standard. However, I have nothing with remote control from the phone or such gimmicks. I have simple switches and just stand next to them until it’s done with up/down (and I think to myself every time: cheers to manual roller shutters. :))

For electric ones, I believe a manual option or a window without [wegen des 2. Rettungsweges] is necessary. That should be taken into consideration. Otherwise, it's mostly the optical concerns, although I don't find that problematic at all.
