Installing solid wood planks floating - how does it work?

Hello dear community,

we are planning to install 20mm thick oak floorboards in our new building. In forums, there are recurring posts (especially recent ones) suggesting that a floating installation is at least possible. However, despite intensive searching, I haven't found much concrete information.

A Dutch timber merchant apparently recommends floating installation with spacer clips on the walls. But that is said not to be ideal.
Another system uses clips for the individual boards. However, it is quite expensive.

I just want to glue the tongue and groove and otherwise leave the floor floating. The subfloor would be a vapor barrier and 3-5mm impact sound insulation.

Question for you.
Who has done or seen something like this before?
What are the experiences with it?
What conditions must be met for something like this to succeed,

Why do you want to install it as a floating floor? Do you have underfloor heating? I would always fully glue parquet/floorboards with underfloor heating.

in any case, you should not have two left hands...

Joking aside, the question of why floating is definitely justified, especially in a private home. Floating parquet tends to creak over time and often clicks when walked on. Otherwise, installation instructions can be found from the manufacturers; it’s clearly not rocket science.

Question to the forum: Who knows a good recipe for [Rollbraten]?
Answer 1: Why [Rollbraten]? Just make pizza, it has proven itself and tastes delicious.
Answer 2: Take a look in a cookbook

To be able to give more precise tips, unfortunately your information is somewhat sparse. What kind of parquet are we talking about?

a.) Solid wood planks?
b.) 2-layer parquet?
b.) 3-layer parquet?
In which pattern should the planks be laid?

Please forgive my remark, but I always find it very tedious to have to extract all the details from the questioner first. So, formulate your question more precisely, then help can be given.

Just read in the heading Massivholzdielen, sorry. It must be said that the most common and also the most sustainable method is gluing the boards. There is also a method where the boards are held together with stainless steel clips and another one is the adhesive mat, which also acts as impact sound insulation, on which the boards are laid. Furthermore, the boards can also be screwed into the groove on a suitable substrate.

The most elegant method in your case seems to be laying the boards with clips, although more expensive. Be sure to maintain a sufficient distance from the wall. Ideally 10mm per 1m of laying width. The reason is that the boards expand in width. Also make sure to glue the boards only at the end joints, never at the longitudinal joint, as this inevitably leads to cracks.

Room temperature and humidity are also important factors contributing to success. Ideally, humidity is around 50 to 65% and the installation temperature around 20°. It is also important that the boards acclimatize before installation, i.e. leave them in the packaging in the room for at least 2 days. Another point is that you should always mix boards from different packages.

So, is that enough for a start?
