hi

has anyone of you retrofitted an air conditioning system in their new build? we wanted to do it right away during construction back then, but everyone kept saying "you don't need that". of course, it was all just stupid nonsense, in summer you totally suffer even with the best insulation. our idea would be an air conditioning unit on the roof, then going into the attic (not finished) and from there through the plasterboard ceilings to mount the air conditioning units (2-3 pieces) on the walls in various rooms upstairs. running the lines to the attic is very easy and going through the ceiling is also quite simple (except for of course damaging the vapor barrier). you also don't see any cables, since the units are just mounted on the wall upstairs. we don’t need air conditioning on the ground floor.

what kind of price should you roughly expect including installation?! does anyone have a ballpark figure? the components should be decent, but no expensive magic stuff. i once read that there is a dominant manufacturer for these systems anyway?! can you get by with 3000€ or is that unrealistic?

I have thought the same. For me, it would probably be 2 devices. Without having done much research, I would estimate 4-6k for [sehr gute, leise] devices including installation. I would definitely choose something of high quality.

I made some mistakes in the planning! But one thing I did very, very right, and my wife said multiple times in 2018, "that was the best decision" -> air conditioning from the start. Costs about 10,000 EUR for high-quality Daikin units. Daikin is top. Pipes etc. all in the floor. Only three rooms are air-conditioned with a total area of about 100 sqm (high ceilings). It ran almost the entire summer. Electricity consumption barely about 170 EUR and worth every cent. Retrofitting is certainly more expensive... what most people forget: You need wastewater at each indoor unit, and that has to go downwards. Pumping upwards is always tricky and often eventually clogged (due to dirt) and then it runs into your room..

Important for wastewater: accessible siphon otherwise it smells. We had a great climate builder and he solved it really well (see picture)...

Well, automatic blinds and proper insulation, you have no problem.

Regardless, you can quickly and cheaply install a split air conditioning unit. Helps well and also cheap to operate.

Wouldn't it be easier to lead the condensate water outside?
