Hello,

unfortunately, I can only find older posts when it comes to the topic of kitchen and quality. We are currently in the middle of kitchen planning and I am wondering if an Ikea kitchen is still "always" worse in quality than Nobilia or Nolte. We are considering buying only carcasses and kitchen fronts from Ikea. Then appliances and countertops externally. Who can report about this? In our case, that would be a saving of about 5-8k euros, which I don’t find little, but the kitchen is supposed to last the next 20-30 years, hence the question about quality.

In older posts, the Ikea kitchen did not get a good rating, so I wanted to know how it is today.

Maybe someone here can share their experiences with Ikea kitchens.

Thank you very much

Hi! I have had a Metod Ikea kitchen since 2018 with countertops from a carpenter and electrical appliances from various manufacturers (Siemens, Liebherr, Berbel). The kitchen is now almost four years old and looks like on the first day, I am very satisfied with it. But it depends on your expectations. I have never dealt intensively with other manufacturers, but there will be some differences that might catch your eye or bother you. For me, everything makes a solid impression, the hinges, drawers, etc. work flawlessly. One limitation is, for example, that not all cabinet types or intermediate widths are available that other manufacturers offer. Whether this is a problem depends on the kitchen plan. I would definitely do it the same way again. I saved a lot of money and above all spared myself the haggling in the kitchen studio. Best regards

A few years ago, I had an Ikea Metod kitchen in my last apartment (but with my own appliances and my own countertop). I was very satisfied with it. Now in the new house, again the same combo - Ikea kitchen furniture and the rest from other manufacturers. Ikea offers something for almost every wish, but sometimes it is tricky. I find the countertops mediocre, especially the only 62.5 cm depth. I prefer to take a 70 cm or larger solid wood countertop or currently granite. The kitchen furniture also made up only about 20% of the total cost. They are dirt cheap, but with branded hinges and drawers. The countertop alone was already significantly more expensive than the nearly 7m L-shaped kitchen.

I currently have an Ikea kitchen and somewhat regret it. The quality of the fronts (I have Ringhult) is abysmal even compared to Nobilia (which I had before). I have either replaced all Ikea appliances or never bought them in the first place due to poor quality. Probably (based on prices of fairly recent kitchen purchases within the family) I would have had to spend 1-2K more on my kitchen including planning and installation. The quality of the fittings is indeed almost comparable (Blum or similar) but: with less stability in the cabinet, it gives a different feel when opening. It feels wobbly / less precise and probably is. In the end, I bought Ikea pragmatically because I had been to the kitchen studio before and the planning completely ignored my wishes and my budget. I didn’t want to spend more time on it and thought it would be like Lego for adults. I "manage" with my kitchen, which I have pimped a bit with better appliances and a nice glass backsplash, but eventually it will be replaced and brand quality will go in.

Unbeatable at Ikea: uncomplicated self-planning, processing, delivery, exchange, complaint. Also the entire "base system," meaning carcasses, drawers as well as the feasibility of self-assembly, combinability. In need of improvement: countertops, fronts(!) and definitely electrical appliances. If you purchase both separately, you can save money AND have a high-quality kitchen.

Why do you find the fronts and countertops in need of improvement? We have both, but only for 5 months, and are very satisfied. You can also order the countertops to measure, so also deeper if the 63 cm depth is not enough. We have a depth of over 1 m on the peninsula. I agree with you on the appliances, we also bought them elsewhere.
