I've found the solution in the meantime: I just quickly coated all the screws with regular vegetable oil (didn't have anything else at the moment) and they screwed in without any problems.
Best regards

Evening,
Our Malm bed frame broke after 5 years of use – specifically: the middle beam broke out at the headboard. Not only did the screws break out of the wood, but the middle beam was also very bent/almost ripped out a piece of metal.
Since we’re currently completely broke and also urgently need new mattresses, I first bought a replacement middle beam to basically reassemble the bed "one level higher."
But now I’m really despairing over the screws for the metal strips on the sides:
They absolutely won’t go in, despite using a cordless drill and applying force. Could it be that the wood just gets a bit harder to handle over time?
Does anyone have a tip on how I can fully screw in the screws?
After all, I don’t want it to come crashing down again in 3 weeks; it would be nice if it holds up for a while this time...
Thanks and best regards
Best regards
