Hello everyone,
I specifically signed up because of this thread here. I am also a "longtime" Ikea buyer and currently frustrated due to the poor selection of extra-long beds. I would probably even pay double the price for the Malm if it were also available in a 220 cm length. It would still be cheaper than pretty much any other extra-long bed on the market.
Has anyone had experience with self-"extended" Malms? As far as I can see, both the longitudinal crossbar and the reinforcements should be adjustable to 220. That means actually only the longitudinal beams would need to be extended. It really makes you wonder where the problem lies at the Ikea carpentry...
Theoretically, you could also buy a second "small" Malm and then cut and splice its beams together. However, I think the bending forces at the joint would be too great. Can't you also get "spare parts" from Ikea?
