Hello everyone,

since the kitchen installation is coming up soon, I am going to Ikea once more on Wednesday. Currently, I have the problem that I would like to install an additional wall cabinet. It should be 60cm wide and 80 cm high, and the microwave should go in the lower part. The upper door would thus be 40 cm high but would be next to the extractor hood, which hangs opposite. (L-shaped kitchen, after the corner cabinet comes the stove and above it the extractor hood, and above the corner cabinet would be the additional cabinet). I am now wondering if it is possible to split the door that opens upwards so that I have two 20 cm doors that then open upwards. The wall cabinet will probably only hold things that are rarely used. I just wonder if what I am planning will work or if the IKEA kitchen consultant will call the plumbers when I tell him about my idea.

Best regards

Franz

Hello, somehow I don't quite understand what you want to build. Maybe someone else is smarter, otherwise a sketch would help.

I think I understand what you're getting at.
Take a look at the hinges of the VÄRDE wall cabinet. The function is best seen in the assembly instructions.

EDIT:
I completely forgot this one:

METOD
Wall cabinet for microwave oven, white, Veddinge white

And if you tell the kitchen planner that the upper front should open upwards, they can manage that too.

Hello Eric,

yes, exactly something like the Värde wall showcase door is what I had in mind.
So that I don’t have a 40 cm door on the Metod cabinet that folds upwards, but
2 x 20 cm doors that basically fold together and then fold up.

Now the only question is whether I can implement this solution with a Metod cabinet?

Best regards

Franz

When you get the hinges, the rest didn’t look so complicated at all. Of course, you have to drill some holes yourself and see if there aren’t any suitable fronts after all. For example, I also installed a 80*20cm one. And I think also 60*20 cm.

Now I think I've got it too. IKEA does not have suitable hinges. Blum offers Aventos HF for high folding flaps, but only from a total door height of 480 mm. Take a look at the entire Aventos program, maybe a high swan neck flap or a high lift flap will also work. Whether a high folding flap with fittings from, for example, Hettich or Grass is feasible for a 400 mm door height, you need to research.
