I am looking for ideas. How would you redesign the room layout? We definitely do not want to leave it as it is. We are two adults and do not need two bedrooms. However, there might be the possibility of an office. The kitchen and living room can be open. Somehow the apartment has too many corridors for my taste.
Info: south is at the bottom of the plan, the access road is to the east.
The upper floor is identical to the ground floor.

The second picture is the southwest view.
The third picture is the southeast view.

The apartment has no hallway, just a 2-meter long corridor in front of the bathroom, which will probably also be good for some wardrobe space.

What is this about anyway?
Is it ownership? Are you already living in it? Rental apartment?
If you don't need two bedrooms, then take Tipp-Ex and cross out one bedroom from the floor plan. Another room can always be useful, whether for guests, hobbies, clothes, office, or ironing.
Designing the kitchen and living room open can be very costly due to the statics. If that is a wish, I advise you to look for another apartment.

The house is owned. However, we do not live in it yet; it is supposed to be made suitable beforehand. Since renovation is necessary anyway, the question also arises whether the room layout and windows should be kept as they are. By long corridor, I meant the area from the entrance to the balcony, which is labeled "Essen" on the plans.

The basement belongs to the apartment. The laundry room and similar will be housed there.

Maybe there are more helpful ideas. Would you really keep this floor plan if quite a bit needs to be renovated anyway?

There will be quite a lot to do. I estimate it was built in the late 60s (24 cm exterior walls?), a gas boiler in the kitchen or bathroom heats each apartment, ... - partitioning a dressing room off the living room will not be easy, otherwise the light partition wall (?) invites combining the bedrooms and swapping rooms. The "two-family house" structure is to remain, nothing will be added (conservatory), nor will the attic be converted?

The attic is not expandable. There should also remain two apartments. Year of construction 1978. We do not need a dressing room, but an extension as a kind of conservatory is possible or it is under discussion whether the balcony will become a large terrace. The exterior wall is made of Durisol stones and 24 cm thick. A central heating system with oil is available. The boiler needs to be replaced. Hot water supply is mostly central through the heating system.

Durisol, okay, then the wall structure can probably remain as it is. What about the interior walls: (if they are masonry) sand-lime bricks? Oil and 1978 – when was there any modernization done?
