How to plaster a wall made of formwork blocks, experiences?

I also built a retaining wall in the garden and would like to beautify it a bit. My plan was to clean the wall, then apply reinforcement with fabric. And either plaster or skim coat afterwards.
There is also a thick coating on the bottom layer, does it have to come off, or can I apply reinforcement mortar and fabric over it?

The question is, how long will it last?
There are some people in the area who advise against doing something like this?

I think if such a formwork wall is built "properly", that is with frost-free foundation, drainage, sealing slurry, etc., then the plaster will also last a long time. The wall just must not absorb moisture.

On my shuttering block wall, I glued reinforcement mesh with reinforcing mortar as the first layer, which also serves as a base coat about 1 cm thick. Troweled smooth, it already looks quite good. Eventually, Munich roughcast will be applied as the top coat.

Hey, I covered a wall in my garden with cladding stones. Plastering was not an option for me because I didn't trust myself to do it. I am more than satisfied with the cladding stones. Unfortunately, I only have two old pictures at hand right now. I can gladly take a current photo if desired.
