How sensitive is sealed parquet?

Hello,

I have to decide shortly on a flooring to be installed in our house. We have underfloor heating everywhere. We are being offered a sealed parquet floor (light oak in ship deck style) with a wear layer of about 4 mm. Sealed does not mean oiled or lacquered, but closed with a special treatment. I do not know the details yet.

The advantages of the parquet are clear to me, and I would really like the feel underfoot. What I am somewhat uncertain about is how resistant the parquet would be with small children. For example, if something spills next to the pants, I can imagine that it would be absorbed relatively quickly by the wood. Sanding away the stain does not always have to work, and stains in the middle of the room are like a thorn in the eye. Does anyone have experience with this?

We have now had oak parquet in all living rooms for 1.5 years (three children, currently three, seven + seven, as well as a Bernese Mountain Dog). This means a lot of toys on the floor, Bobby cars, doll prams, etc.

The floors are definitely put to the test, but oak can withstand quite a lot. Small scratches or dents (when a plate just jumps onto the floor again) are unavoidable. But that is exactly what makes parquet so appealing - it "lives." Despite our large family, I would still describe the floor as visually excellent. Sanding is a long way off.

What can really ruin parquet is liquid that is not wiped up for a long time (although even puppy dog pee did nothing after an hour) and, for example, sandy shoes (which act like sandpaper).

Hello, I can only confirm that. Water / moisture is deadly. We once cleaned our carpet with a wet vacuum cleaner and wondered after hours why it smelled. The stains were a bit darker, but it absorbed everything.

I would advise you not to choose too soft parquet. Just take a hammer and drop it a few cm above the parquet. If there are already dents, it is too soft. That was the case in our old apartment. Every little compact one a big dent.

Now we have bamboo parquet. Really robust! We already had it at our dance school back then.
