I think the difference is that it is very difficult to reduce a high standard of living than to stay at a low level during/after studying. I believe many also neglect the long period of saving, as everything accumulates with interest. If you start late, firstly that is lost and secondly you have already become too accustomed to the standard of living. Mine has also increased somewhat by now.
