Sure - no one would put up with something like that in the long run. The question is why he managed to bluff his way through the job interview?
In Germany, apart from the probation period, you have no chance to get rid of even somewhat affordable but toxic employees again. In this respect, you either have to take the forced subscription afterwards, or it gets really expensive (or unfair).
He didn’t bluff his way through. Job interviews are ultimately mutually scripted, artificial sales talks. Whoever can’t manage to keep their own madness somewhat under control there is probably better off as a 100% remote freelancer :)
By the way, this is exactly the mechanism that makes you feel safe – the tight market. We prefer trial days and give chances, but we also use the cancellation option (by the way, we tell shaky candidates that it is a mutual trial). How people are in the group no job interview in the world will reveal to you (“do you like working in a team?” – “Yes.” Great :-))
I’m wondering a bit why you want to discuss this so intensely. That it can work despite the probation period at banks was already clear after a few answers. What are you still concerned about – do you feel insecure? Too much change at once?
