Hi!

As part of our house renovation, the floor coverings will also be renewed. A new WINDFANG of 2x3.5m will be built as an extension to the existing house. An open staircase is connected to it. The KELLERTREPPE (with access to the windfang) is a concrete staircase and there is a wooden staircase from the ground floor to the upper floor.

It is certain that we want light tiles with underfloor heating on the ground floor.

We would also like to tile the windfang. The floor covering for the concrete staircase is completely open but should be so robust that you can enter the ground floor with street shoes or come up from the basement (with garden access) with appropriate footwear without damaging the covering immediately.

The question is therefore about a practical material-color concept for windfang (tiles) / cellar staircase (material?) / ground floor (light tiles).

What are your experiences with this? Which colors go well together?

I would use the same tiles everywhere. That makes the room (the rooms) more spacious.

Hi!
Laying the same tiles everywhere at least reduces waste. However, light tiles in the hallway are more for those who enjoy cleaning.
Of course, you shouldn't use 17 different types of tiles. My suggestion would be a dark tile with a slate-like texture for the hallway and stairs – the latter for slip resistance on the stairs.
However, ease of cleaning and slip resistance mutually exclude each other.
In the hallway, I would also install a dirt-trapping mat in the floor. If you can then find a tile size that matches the stair width........
By the way, I used the above-mentioned tiles in 90 x 45 cm in the bathroom – I didn’t want to risk breaking my hip later. In the hallway, I have very bright, very expensive, and very smooth tiles – an absolute rubbish .

Best regards,
TomTom.
