You will probably be advised to get risk insurance, which I also consider sensible. In the worst case, it covers the financing to such an extent that the lower-earning partner is secured. But there are also the bonuses, which are quite high and flow regularly. Although you don't count on them for the financing, something is added every year. Since the household budget has been very well managed, I don't see a big problem there. Ps. A vacation trip for a family AI 10 days to Greece or Spain costs a fraction of €15,000. That also includes a visit to the zoo as well as several days at the Baltic Sea for the same amount ; )

Without meals is already a big item, why is it missing for you?
Skiing 1 week in a wellness hotel all inclusive €3,500
1 week cruise €2,500
10 nights Turkey all inclusive €4,600
Summer vacation approx. €4,000 all inclusive
All the day trips or short vacations are missing here

With meals, you come to a similar amount anyway

LOL. I spent 5.5k this year on three holidays during the school holidays without catering (I'd rather organize everything myself than have it spoon-fed).
And no, I don't need 9.5k for catering in four weeks (by the way, I also have to eat at home). Even if we ate out every day and spent a lot of money on other things, that wouldn't add up.

Sure, if you book everything all-inclusive, it really costs a lot. But that's too boring for me and us.

The conversation about vacation costs may certainly be entertaining, but I don't think one should take someone as a reference here who spends or wants to spend €15,000 on short trips without long-distance travel. The average German spent about €1,500 per person in 2023. I don't see a construction forum as suitable for discussing individual costs. Next thing you know, Mama Müsch will come along and say that €400(0) monthly expenses for clothes should be included in a calculation.

However, one should discuss that the original poster's figures are plausible (can be) and that one DOES NOT have to spend 15k per year as a standard for a little vacation. That's what it's about.

Who’s talking about painting a room? In my example, I’m talking about the facade. Setting up scaffolding, taping off, and painting at 5-plus meters high is quite different than painting a room.
How do you explain to an 18-month-old child to please keep their distance from the door frame when they’re driving around with a ride-on car? And that was just one example of many that happen in everyday life. Children play, and when they play, things sometimes get damaged — it’s not the result of poor upbringing. Of course, you could watch them all day long, but I have my own opinion on that. Well, some people take it more lightly, others just replace a door or two if it bothers them. You should be able to cover household appliances from the monthly budget at any time, as well as car repairs, excluding engine or transmission replacements or things like that. But that’s just my personal opinion as well.

After 10 years, they may just be cosmetic repairs that you “just don’t do,” but after 20 years, the original heat pump certainly won’t still be standing in front of the house. How is the replacement paid for then? Exactly, financed.
