Hello everyone,

My house from the 60s has the main connections under the stairs. The small room is about 1.5m long, 0.8m wide, and 2m high at the entrance, then it slopes down directly to perhaps 1m height because of the stairs above. Exactly in the area with 1m ceiling height, all connections come out of the wall.

The room falls short of the necessary minimum dimensions for main connection rooms, which is 1.25m of free space in front of fuse boxes, etc. On the internet, you always read a lot, and it sounds like I have to create a new main connection room. I also do not know how strict the requirement is that the technology must be mounted on the wall of the main connections. What do you think is permissible:
- Can I keep the main connection box there?
- The existing single-phase electricity meter must be replaced by a three-phase meter. Is it allowed to keep it there and only relocate the fuse box?
- Which positions are possible for the fuse box (and possibly main connection box and meter)?
1. On the left wall in front of the stairs?
2. In the intermediate corridor? I have marked the actual size. There would be 1.25m of space in front of it.
3. In the technical room
- Can I leave the water meter and gas meter (both renewed a few years ago) under the stairs?

Thank you very much

Basically, everything can stay as it is as long as you don’t do any major renovations. For the electrical system, I would redo everything once, based on how the existing setup appears.

In place of the current meter, there will be a house connection box with NH fuses, if it’s not already there. From there, a new line goes to the new main distribution board. The meter is located there, and you install it in a properly accessible place. There also seems to be enough space between the stairs and the utility room.

I would extend the existing cables at the current sub-distribution box with a terminal box up to the new sub-distribution.

Ok, thanks. That reassures me for now until I find a suitable electrician who will carry it out with me.

Well, everything has to be completely new: electricity, water, and gas completely removed and reinstalled.

If you completely remove the house connections, it could become difficult. It depends on what kind of technician you get from your supplier. If they insist on the corresponding values, then it is too small.

What kind of house connection do you have there? Cross-section of the cable? And why should it be completely removed?
You can also renovate everything and leave your house connections where they are. Then you will have fewer problems than if you remove them all.

Mh for me it was the case that the old house connection box had to be replaced. This could also be read in the conditions of the supplier. They are, as stated, the first point of contact.

That was somewhat unclear from me. Of course, I want to keep the house connections there. I am least bothered by those under the stairs. The entire rest needs to be new.

The information from the supplier that I know of is all for new buildings. On the phone, I was bluntly referred to an electrical contractor who would know best how it should be done in my case... sounds like I just need to find the right company that does not ignore my wishes.
