Our circulation pump runs once every morning from 6:50 to 7:20 am. This is the "shower time". Our hot water tank is heated once a day (16:00) to 50 degrees. This is enough for 47 degrees hot water temperature in the boiler in the early morning.

Are we talking about the circulation pump, which in my Viessmann heat pump runs at 7 watts? 7 watts! Yours won’t consume more than that either. Considering that it prevents the formation of legionella and always provides hot water immediately from the tap (wherever), thus helping to save water. I run it for 3 hours in the morning and from afternoon until evening for 7 hours. That’s 10 hours. At 39 cents/kWh --> €0.027/day. That’s just under €10 per year. Let it run...

It’s not about the power consumption of the circulation pump but about the heat losses. Over the course of a year, that adds up to quite a bit more.

Another question: how often does the heat pump produce hot water per day? Mine does it exactly once because I have limited it in time.

At €0.39/kWh and about 1 kWh per hot water cycle, I need about €142 per year for hot water. If the heat pump runs constantly like in your case, it certainly produces hot water 2 or even 3 times daily (provided the hot water generation is not time-limited). Also, the heating cycle is constantly interrupted, which is not smart either. I'd rather wait 5 seconds until I get warm water from the tap...

I don't want to talk anyone out of it, don't misunderstand me. But please take a legionella sample once a year. I work professionally with germs and water cycles. Unfortunately, I have a different perspective on this than just purely monetary. But as I said, I'm not telling you what to do...

5 seconds? You must have very short pipes...

But such a decision is made before construction, not afterwards.
Once a circulation system is installed, it must be used for hygienic reasons.
And not just once a day for a few minutes.
Because flushing through just a bit of lukewarm water always is ideal for germs.
