I just checked, we have a similar basement - an unheated room currently has 63% at 17.5°C, the room with the heating technology waste heat is at about 20°C with 57%.

The question for me would also be to what extent it would be somehow comfortable inside without insulation or renovation. In our rooms downstairs, I certainly can't imagine spending the night or working an entire day.

First of all, thank you for the answers.

In the meantime, I also inquired with a building surveyor. He said more or less the same, but also said that one does not have to insulate "within the thermal envelope," only outside of it.

How can I determine how well the basement was actually insulated or not? From the construction drawings, it is only evident that a drainage system was installed next to the basement.

My idea would be rather to insulate the basement from the inside since it would practically not be possible from the outside (the conservatory is above).

Insulating a wall - especially a basement wall - from the inside seems difficult to me, as you are bringing the dew point inside the house. Definitely consult an expert here. What material is the basement made of and how thick are the walls? Usually, a basement is poured from concrete and then insulated with XPS or EPS panels, e.g. 12 cm thick.

To be honest: No idea. My assessment is that they were cast from concrete; what I can see is that every few meters there is something like a rubber coating or something where the walls were probably joined together. How thick the walls are or whether they are insulated in any way, I don’t know myself.

The continuation can be found at , but it could also have taken place more clearly here.
