Hello everyone,

we have recently become owners of three plots of land, two of which are building land, one is green space. High-voltage power lines run over the green space. Since an orchard meadow is to be established on the green space (compensatory area), we have given some thought to the lines.

The lines run, as we find, relatively low over the green space and therefore limit ourselves in planting the trees. We would now like to know if the lines are allowed to hang that low. There must surely be regulations regarding the minimum height, right?

In an internet search, I found many pages that mention minimum heights, but neither provide concrete information nor cite a legal source. I would be very grateful for help here.

There is also quite a bit about compensation payments, but always only concerning network expansion. There is nothing for existing lines, is there?

Many thanks for your help!

Trees under a high-voltage power line is never a good idea.

What do you mean by so deep? Can you be more specific?

Compensation payment is of course only provided initially upon establishment. Otherwise, one would only need to sell the property 20 times in a circle and become rich.

Does that mean? Maybe you should have thought about it before buying. What do you want to be compensated for? You bought the property along with the lines. There is exactly €0 for you. The original owner may have received payments.

Thanks first of all for the answers.

1. I really find it very hard to estimate. I would have guessed something around 12 - 15 m; however, they can sag even more at high temperatures and/or heavy loads.

2. We have. If it had been a reason for us not to buy it, we wouldn’t have done so.

3. These are municipally owned areas.

Normal height. Where is the problem with planting a few fruit trees there.

Then the community either received a payment from the grid operator or not. But in the end, it doesn’t really matter, since you bought the property as it is.
