I have not yet calculated the required space; I will let you know once the number of bins and their sizes are finalized. I was simply inspired by "English labyrinths" and thought it would be nice if you could only see a bit of the spiral and nothing of the bins. The entrance to the spiral would then be near the floor-to-ceiling kitchen door. However, it seems I haven't fully thought it through yet. While in my husband's imagination everything is much too small and we don't have enough space, I see an enormous amount of space everywhere for all kinds of "fancy things" (if anyone still knows that expression). ;-) But that's because my husband misses the former garage, workshop, basement, attic, and shed, while I am glad to finally be rid of all these junk rooms. :)

The personal quirks are what really make a house beautiful and cozy. It was important to us to have a short and direct path with the full bins to the street. How do you know if in 10 years 1, 3, 5, 7 bins will be needed?

So I am indeed younger than you, but I also know the word, although slightly modified as Spirenzchen (both seem to exist and to be synonyms).

And clarify whether you have [Gelbe Säcke] or [Gelbe Tonnen]. I would not store [Säcke] outside. They regularly get torn to pieces.

That is also a good idea, I will think about it. A short and straight path would also be possible for us, but I don’t like that visually so much. Regarding the number of bins in maybe 10 years, we will think about that later. The snail solution doesn’t have to be permanent. It’s just a hedge. ;-) We have yellow bins. So far it looks like a gray legally required residual waste bin, a yellow bin for plastic, a blue bin for paper, and a bio-waste bin. Regarding the bio-waste bin, I am still considering whether to replace it with a rotary composter with two drums. But I am still unsure. I definitely don’t want a compost heap. (I find those so awful, they ruin every garden. ;-) )

To save space, one could also erect a privacy screen instead of the second row of hedges, which can be covered with vines, e.g. wine.
