Hello everyone,

I am still BEFORE the actual construction of my house, but I am already thinking about how to keep my terrace warm.

Why?
1. Because I am always cold everywhere and I NEVER want that again.
2. Because my terrace should become an active part of the house even in autumn/winter.
3. Because maybe something needs to be installed in the floor slab or the house wall (electricity/gas).

Speaking freely and without being an expert, I somehow constantly think about a terrace with slatted flooring and warmth coming from below.
But that would really be an energy waste, so again radiant heaters on the house wall?

From the floor plan it looks like my house is 10 meters wide, so also the terrace-house-wall.
On the right and left is an enclosure with a concrete/stone wall.
The terrace itself is 4 meters deep, then there is a lawn area.
The easiest (and probably also the cheapest) would probably be to stretch an awning over the window front (which goes over the entire 10 meters)
and attach elongated radiant heaters underneath. When it gets cold, extend the awning. The walls are on R / L and then the heat can radiate downward.
Could it really be that simple? I am worried that if a table is, say, 1 meter away from the wall the people sitting outside (so say 2.5 meters from the wall) would no longer be warmed.

What do you say - how did you solve this? You can spend a lot of money, just for wind protection quickly 10k can be gone.

Best regards
Flo

Warm clothing. Sorry, I find it crazy to heat a terrace. Wouldn't a conservatory with a folding sliding door be more sensible?

Wind protection on the side of a terrace or seating area is completely legitimate. An awning is sun protection and also temporarily protects against heat accumulation in the rooms located "behind" the awning. For cold protection, I recommend simply staying inside the house.

Install heat emitters and a windbreak. Therefore, you will need electricity in the respective areas. An awning makes sense anyway, whether as sun protection on the terrace or as heat protection for the house. If you sit on the terrace very often, heating is energetically crazy. If it happens rarely, the investment is not "worth it". Mobile heaters might then be more sensible.

Common methods are infrared emitters. For this, it is best to have cables with a cross-section of 3x2.5 mm2. However, such emitters easily consume several kW per hour.

We installed a 3kW Solarlogic infrared heater in the covered part of the terrace roof. It can be controlled in 3 levels with a smartphone and a supplied remote control. It's great when sitting outside in autumn with friends who are sensitive to cold. Then it's blankets first, then the heater on. The radiation range is sufficient for 6 people. We use the device quite rarely, but when we do, it greatly contributes to enjoying the situation.
