Hello everyone,

No idea if I’m in the right place here... We recently had our oil heating system replaced with a pellet heating system. In the offer, we were told that the conversion would be no problem and would go very quickly (it was done in half a day, I was told). The offer includes 2 installers with 8 hours each and a technician with 2 hours. In the end, they had to carry the heating system from the garage to the basement. The old oil heating system was dismantled (I took care of the disposal), the new one was screwed in and connected (including the new pipes to the old buffer tank, new sensors on the buffer tank, etc.).

Now the invoice has arrived. The installers were there for 2 days. Four people were needed to transport it to the basement. In total, it is now 42 hours for the installers and over 6 hours for the technician!!!

Unfortunately, I wasn’t at home on those days, I only came in the afternoon and can’t quite understand who was there when. On the last day, I arrived at 3 pm, and the installers were just leaving. I stood next to the technician as he was reading the manual - tapping a bit on the heating system, since the heating system was warming up very slowly from the temperatures. Around 4 pm he left, came back at 5 pm, and left again at 7:30 pm because he wasn’t sure if the heating system was running correctly. He told me that the new heating systems apparently warm up very slowly the first time. But he didn’t really change anything anymore, rather he waited.

Do I have to pay for all of this now? To be honest, the technician didn’t really seem to me like he knew what the problem was. Even if there really was a problem with the heating system, do I have to pay for this because he doesn’t know exactly what is wrong during the first startup?

Please get back to me!

Thank you very much!!!

YES! Because you have obviously received the service stated in the contract. Whether you like it or not.

Accordingly, offers or cost estimates would be relatively useless -> quote cheaply; bill expensively - the argument that the service was provided then justifies the additional costs...

Offers are ultimately professional estimates; of course the invoice can differ. In my opinion, permissible deviations are limited, however. As far as I know, deviations up to 20% (?) are accepted.

That can be debated. Ultimately in court. In the first instance, a conversation with the master will certainly help.

Therefore, it always makes sense to agree on a fixed price. In my case, there were several items in the offer that were to be charged "based on effort." An invoice should and may only deviate by a certain percentage from the offer. What use is an offer to me if the invoice amount differs significantly afterwards. An offer is binding - the craftsman has to adhere to it. Certain deviations (10% ???) are permitted as far as I know.

Regards
