Heat the hobby room in the basement with infrared or electric heating?

Electric radiators do not produce any more or different odors than heaters. And also no different air. At least not with similar usage behavior.

I believe this could be a case for infrared heaters. Radiant heat arrives quickly and is pleasant, you don’t have to preheat the room for hours, and they somewhat compensate for cold walls. However, I don’t know exactly what they cost.

What kind of heating system did you end up choosing? I’m also currently thinking about how to heat the hobby room. One construction company recommends a (larger) radiator, another suggests installing underfloor heating right away since they say it doesn’t cost much more, and a third recommends an electric radiator. Underfloor heating as well as the radiator will probably have to run for a long time with the low flow temperature until it gets warm, I assume? Maybe not the best for occasional use either? I had also thought about infrared..

Is the hobby room within the thermal envelope? If yes, then you have to basically maintain a base temperature there anyway, because otherwise you will heat it through the other rooms. I would install the underfloor heating right away.

since the basement is insulated, I assume everything is inside. For everyone, there is actually only underfloor heating in the basement anteroom. The two who recommend a separate heating system say underfloor heating is too expensive. In the entire basement, definitely. They say it is better insulated upwards towards the ground floor if I understood correctly.

Yes. Without a basement, the utility room is also heated by the other rooms. I would choose an infrared heater, there are already great options. The hobby room is only used occasionally.

Infrared heats immediately. Some people may not like the feeling, so just give it a try. I think it's great.
