I have always railed against batteries too - now we have ordered our photovoltaic system with a battery anyway. You have to calculate it precisely. Above all, the photovoltaic system should be large enough to fill up, because otherwise nothing comes in during winter. No one knows what will happen with the Renewable Energy Act. In times of Corona, it is not a priority and it is becoming increasingly likely that no follow-up regulation will come into effect before the cap is lifted, which would mean there would no longer be a guaranteed remuneration. Then only self-consumption (with battery) remains.
The note about retrofitting is correct. However, you can only get the VAT back on the storage when buying the system. Not with retrofitting.
Decisive for us were the fallen prices, the tax refund, and a state funding program. That makes the 11.2kWh effectively cost us only €4300. And we have (soon) almost 29kWp on the roof. So the heat pump can still draw some in winter.
So. We have now made a decision. We will install a heat pump and initially a small photovoltaic system with 5.1 kWp, but initially without storage. Then we will observe for at least 1 year how our heating and electricity consumption behavior develops. After that, we may add storage and possibly also expand the photovoltaic system. With this solution, we have a good feeling.
The small Popelanlage will help you cover a certain part of your electricity consumption in the summer. (Guess: 40-60%) In winter, you will not be able to cover even a fraction of your electricity needs with it (Guess 20 - 30%) and the device will bring you almost nothing for the heat pump. (Guess <10%)
