What is dynamic routing needed for in a home network? Do your networks change constantly?

Not read but tried it myself. However, this is a "disease" that affects all routing-capable switches. Simple routes still work up to a certain complexity, beyond that the CPU has to take over the work, and the bandwidth between the switch chip and the CPU is often rather low, which then becomes noticeable.

And how did you determine the 100mbit? Serious question. Copying a large file from client to client?

There are special tools for this purpose to measure network bandwidth, e.g. iperf. Although it is not as accurate as the prohibitively expensive measuring devices designed solely for this purpose, it is sufficient for home use, especially to determine the difference between 100 MBit and 1000 Mbit. ;)
