Hello,

we are planning to install a glass sliding door between the hallway and the living room in our new building. Which manufacturers can you recommend? I have concerns regarding sound. However, it would have the advantage of more daylight in the hallway. Are my concerns justified? What experiences do you have? Does a glass sliding door have any other disadvantages?

Thank you in advance

An acquaintance has one. Visually, I find something like that quite appealing. However, he himself says that it is almost always open and a normal door would have done the job... That was also the reason why we decided against one and saved the extra cost. Disadvantages could be (I’m not exactly sure) that repairs or replacements are more expensive than some ordinary doors. But how often are doors actually replaced...

It will probably not be used very often at all, since a swinging door can be opened and closed more quickly. Consider whether you even need a door.

We have a ceiling-height glass door with a side panel in a folding frame to separate the all-purpose room from the hallway and thus the stairwell/upper floor. The normal state is open; when there's noise upstairs or the TV gets louder in the evening, it closes. So, quite regularly. Hm, pros and cons. Advantage: the separability, sound insulation, visually it's a highlight. I only like sliding doors if they're integrated into the wall; I don't want to see the necessary mechanics, I don't like that. Disadvantage: price, I mean it was about 3k already, fingerprint smudges on the glass. Due to the size of the element, someone occasionally runs into it when it's closed (=big mark on the glass).

Glass looks cold, I wouldn't like it. Disadvantages are fingerprints, expensive, and moderate sound insulation. Separation is basically great, we use it quite often and are glad not to have it open.
